We love men with many talents and Kyle Petersen is no exception. Born and bred in sunny Cape Town, he is a performer, musical director, solo artist and concert pianist who landed his first theatre role in Evita at the Artscape Theatre at the tender age of nine. By the age of 18, Kyle had completed 14 years of both classical piano and vocal training.
With more than 30 shows under his belt as a musical director and having worked with top South African acts, such as Toya Delazy, Blackbyrd, Danny K and Elvis Blue, we thought it only our duty to find out what makes the man with all the smooth sounds tick.
What would you say is your best attribute?
I try to be assertive as much as possible. I believe that knowing yourself and what you’re about is important if you’re on a path to achieving your own version of success. However, more than anything, I value humility – in others and myself.
What do you find most attractive in a woman?
On the physical side, I’m intrigued by eyes. They tell you more than you would expect to know. It’s a window into the type of energy that person is sending out into the world.
Describe your perfect date.
I prefer quieter occasions – a setting where moments can be created and the depths of personalities can be explored. Dinner in Tuscany overlooking the vineyards followed by a glass of wine in front of the fireplace is an ideal situation.
Any dream holiday destinations on your wish list?
I am very fortunate to have visited loads of countries during my career. I am fascinated by history so would really love to visit Egypt at some point. The idea of standing under the stars, admiring the pyramids is one that captivates my imagination.
We all love a good drink. What’s yours?
Ha! That’s an easy one – Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select with a shot of lime. It’s the perfect balance between sweet and sour. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that it does wonders for my voice.
