We know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and that we need the sustenance in order to stay on top of our game. But if you’re going to eat the WRONG thing, then you’re probably just better off skipping it entirely…
We all have those weekday mornings when we wake up to find we’ve really overslept. You scurry out of bed, literally run through the shower, throw on whatever clothes are lying on the floor, and grab the most convenient thing in the kitchen to scarf down while you walk out the door.
It should go without saying that starting your day with foods like doughnuts, pastries, or pancakes is a fat storing nightmare. And so we turn to other so-called ‘healthier alternatives’, but the truth is that they are nearly just as bad. While these three foods are thought to be one of those ‘healthier alternatives’, they are actually some of the worst things you can eat in the morning.
1 Muffins
Any idea how many calories are in a store-bought muffin? And don’t even get us started on donuts! Depending on its size, it can be a good 500 – 700 calories. These calories contain absolutely NO protein or healthy fats to keep you feeling full and satisfied.
2 Bagels
Would you knowingly eat four slices of bread? Well, eating a bagel is pretty much the same thing. And just like bread, the carbohydrates will quickly convert into sugar, which will make you store fat and leave you feeling lethargic.
3 Cereals
Cereals are by far one of the worst foods for your waistline and your health. Cleverly disguised as a ‘healthy’ breakfast through great marketing, most cereals are just a bowl full of empty calories, simple carbs and sugar. Yum.
Waking up and starting your day with one of these foods is like willing a bee to sting your stomach. The literally make it swell up, leaving you feeling fat and bloated for the entire day.
We totally understand that mornings are generally pretty hectic, but because of the health and performance benefits you’ll gain, taking the time to eat a sustaining breakfast is the best gift you can give yourself.
So now that you’ve been put off your three usual morning meals, we’ve got three great (and genuinely healthy) alternatives to try. Here’s the easiest tropical breakfast ever, a DIY granola recipe you need to try, and 3 smoothies that’ll power up your day. Enjoy!
