Denim trends have come and gone – bootcut, bootleg, skinny – but boyfriend jeans keep coming back. They’re easy to wear and a staple in your wardrobe for all year around. Here’s how to style them and wear the trend this winter!
Roll or fold
Boyfriend jeans are best-worn rolled up or folded up above the ankles. If you’re wearing cute socks, this is also a great way to show them off. You can either do a pin roll like Kate Beckinsale (which is a way of tapering your pants around the ankle by folding them tightly) or fold them over like Nicole Richie – the choice is yours!
It’s all in the shoes
Whether you choose to pin roll or fold your jeans also depends on what shoes you’re going to wear. If you’re going to be wearing sneakers, its best to pin roll your jeans – you can show your shoes off and also keep indigo stains off, especially if your kicks are white and brand new. For ankle boots and heels, you can fold them for an edgy yet laid back look. The relaxed fit of the jeans and the high fashion element of a high heel is always a stylish and fun contrast.
Dress them up…
Boyfriend jeans are just as versatile and easy to dress up or down as your regular skinny jeans. When dressing them up, you can wear them with a plain white T-shirt, black blazer and heels. Carry your favourite clutch or quilted handbag, and you’re good to go! You can also add some androgyny to your look by wearing brogues or flats like Miranda Kerr.
…or dress them down
When you’re wearing them when you have downtime, wear them with a sweatshirt or sweater and sneakers for a ’90s throwback look. You can also pair them with a plain T-shirt and check shirt or an oversized chunky cardigan and desert boots for a hipster-inspired look.
