You’ve seen them on Kanye West, Miranda Kerr and all over street style blogs – now it’s time for you to have your own pair of leather pants! Here are five tips on how to style one of this year’s most on-trend pieces for any occasion.
Wear them right now
You don’t have to wait until the middle of June to start wearing leather pants – they work just as well in autumn, too. You can pair skinny leather pants with an oversized T-shirt or plaid shirt and a chunky necklace, along with your favourite sneakers or statement heels, wearing them as you would skinny jeans, jeggings or leggings.
Make them a staple
As they’re not just for rockstars anymore, you can wear leather pants at the office with a crisp white button-up shirt and a coloured jacket, or a ruffled blouse with a structured black blazer. Just keep in mind that because the leather itself is such a big statement, it’s important to keep the rest of your outfit as simple as possible.
Try a laid-back look
For weekend wear, match up your leather skinnies with loafers or pumps and a striped sweater. If it’s a high-fashion look that you’re after, go for baggy leather pants and pair them with a simple high heel and a sweatshirt. You can accessorise with a hat or a beanie and for a bit of edge, add some chunky silver jewellery.
Go for faux
Can’t handle the heat or heaviness of leather or pleather pants? Try on a few pairs of waxed or wet look jeans that give the high-shine appearance of leather, and the luxe look that comes with it. Bonus: they’re likely to cost less, too.
Take a short cut
If you’re loving leather, why not try the texture in shorts, too? – Grab a pair to suit your shape and wear them over some tights or stockings with ankle boots and a tee-and-chunky-knit combination that’ll have you as cosy as you are cool.
