You have collaborated with global brands like Fashion Nova. What have these partnerships taught you about the global fashion industry and its connection to African style?
Collaborating with global brands has shown me the growing appreciation for African fashion and its influence on the industry. It is a reminder that African designers have a unique voice, blending cultural heritage with contemporary trends. These partnerships have also highlighted the importance of storytelling–people don’t just buy clothes, they buy into a culture, a movement, and a lifestyle.
Berbie Beauty is known for its athleisure collections. What inspired you to blend comfort and style, and how do you think the athleisure trend will continue to evolve?
I was inspired by the need for versatility—fashion that seamlessly transitions from a workout to brunch, traveling, or errands without compromising style. Athleisure is evolving into something even more fashionable, with luxe fabrics and sustainability at its core. People now want pieces that are functional, stylish, and tailored for high performance, fitting every part of their lives.
How has your approach to beauty evolved since you launched Berbie Beauty?
I focus on feeling confident and embracing your uniqueness, not just looking good. With Berbie Beauty, I prioritize creating pieces that empower people to feel their best in any setting, whether working out or going about their daily lives.
What do you think sets Nigerian fashion apart on the global stage, and how can more African designers tap into international markets?
Nigerian fashion is bold, expressive, and deeply rooted in culture, making it standout globally. The craftsmanship, attention to detail, and use of vibrant fabrics tell a story that resonates beyond borders. To tap into international markets, African designers should embrace digital platforms, collaborate with influencers, and showcase their work at global fashion weeks. The world is ready for more African excellence in fashion.
You have previously been to South Africa. What do you like the most about the country?
South Africa is stunning! I love the rich culture, breathtaking landscapes, and of course, the fashion scene. The mix of urban energy in Cape Town and the peaceful vibes of the vineyards and their wineries creates the perfect balance.
When traveling, you tend to engage in various daring activities. What would you say is your most daring hobby?
I love pushing myself out of my comfort zone. One of the most daring things I have done was skydiving and bungee jumping. It’s such a thrill, and I love the adrenaline rush of trying new experiences.
What's a major lesson from your constant travels?
Travel has taught me that the world is so much bigger than our comfort zones. Everyplace has a unique story, and there is always something new to learn. It also made me appreciate the beauty of diversity, whether in fashion, food, or traditions.
As someone who has experienced various cultures and locations, what destination has left the most lasting impact on you and why?
Thailand. The experience was unforgettable because of the culture, people, and fashion inspiration I gained.
Self-care is essential, especially for someone with a busy lifestyle like yours. What does your ideal self-care day look like?
My ideal self-care day is all about unwinding and recharging. It starts with a slow morning–good skincare, a long shower, and a cozy robe. Then, I do something that makes me happy, whether it’s a spa treatment, a relaxing workout, pilates or a quiet day at home with candles and music. Self-care is not just about pampering; it is about giving yourself time to breathe and reset.
