The first Monday in May is the most anticipated night in fashion for its members in the industry, Hollywood and their ilk. It’s been dubbed as “fashion’s biggest night out” with everyone anxiously awaiting and hoping they would be graced with an invite to the most coveted fashion event - the Met Gala. Each guest is hand picked by legendary Vogue US editor Anna Wintour.
This annual exhibition is a fundraising initiative that raises eight-figure sums for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. This year the theme of the exhibition is ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’ — according to Vogue, it “will take the Black dandy as its subject, examining the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora.” This is the first time since 2003 that the exhibit will focus exclusively on menswear.
Lewis Hamiliton,, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo and Anna Wintour will co-chair the 2025 Met Gala, with LeBron James who will be serving as an honorary chair. South Africa’s own superstar Tyla was selected to be one of the members of the host committee alongside a plethora of celebs for this star studded event. This is a huge acknowledgement of her star power within the music and fashion industry.
With the announcement of the theme, co chairs and host committee members, we now look forward to the red carpet moment and eagerly await each guest’s interpretation of the theme.
