SA Menswear Week SS23 fashion roundup

SA Menswear Week spring/summer 2023 is back and we are so excited for its return this season. Prominent trends included bold colour, floral, fuschia pink and neon green, sheer and feathers. Laani Raani, Xolani Mawande, By Ele, Shana, Stefania Morland, Habits, Ruff Tung, Redbat Posse and Imprint ZA were among the many designers and brands that showcased.

Below are some of our highlights for our favourite womenswear looks:

Xolani Mawande

Xolani Mawande loves to combine colour with tailoring. From an orange collared crop paired with a midriff mini to an asymmetrical pink blazer and lime green trousers. Pink and lime green are some of the season’s trendiest colours but paired together was perfection. The beautiful model Masa Tom opened and closed the show.

By Ele Apparel

By Ele Apparel featured bright yellows and pinks, tie dye, netting and sheer looks and this collection did not disappoint. We love the vibrant colours for the summer season.

Stefania Morland

Stefania Morland showcased bright pinks, lime green, floral and sheer looks. The collection was bright and very floral. The dresses started off with floral embroidery and large floral appliqué followed by minimal ready-to-wear pieces paired with shoes from That Shoe Lady. A lemon yellow sequin dress with tulle and feathers is a perfect combo that could be danced all night in.

The fashion house featured their signature black and white print including spots and stripes. Some looks were paired with avant garde couture hats by Bettina Thomas millinery.

Ruff Tung

Ruff Tung’s collection was full of bright florals, sequins and signature prints. There were splashes of 70s pink and orange citrus prints, multicoloured sparkly sequin jumpsuits and flattering dresses. This collection embodies flamboyance, confidence and joy all at once.

Imprint ZA

Luxury fashion brand Imprint is known for Afrofuturistic prints, texture and colour. Designer Mzukisi Mbane’s inspiration comes from celebrating the stories and glamour of African culture. We loved the statement suit in a green print, the printed yellow dress with billowing sleeves and the black and white midi print dress with a bow by the neck. Models walked down the runway in oversized yellow sun hats, printed head scarves and bold makeup. Impeccable tailoring paired with beautiful prints, every piece of the collection stood out and undeniably left a mark.

Redbat Posse

Redbat Posse showcased a capsule collection made up of a variety of designers and finalists including Yamkela Mahlelehlele, Sisonke Tyali, Mmaputhi Movundlela and Robyn Agulhas’ Sinchui. The collection was made from old Redbat samples and included oversized streetwear, experimental denim, patchwork, large pockets, a fluorescent bomber jacket and colourful stitching.
