Catwalk jewellery needs to make an immediate impact if it’s to be spotted from the back row – or indeed make an impression on those in the all-important front. Designers are taking this to heart this season with supersized jewels, be it Panconesi for KNWLS’s giant silver hoop-in-hoops or Tom Ford’s disco-lights-for-the-face sequin versions. Craft is also a running theme. Chopova Lowena continues its obsession with Bulgarian culture, featuring macramé necklaces made by local craftspeople intertwined with healing crystals, and chains hung with cartoon charms. At Coach, hippy, tonal beads are mixed with objects lost and found. And what would a 21st century runway be without pearls? The queen of these gems of the sea, Simone Rocha, toughens them up by weaving them through heavy chains, while Nensi Dojaka’s slinky, sensual, pearl-dotted chain is the perfect match for her flirty fashion.
