The reason why most of us go to gym is because we want to have legs like Rihanna, abs like Miley Cyrus and firm butts like Jennifer Lopez. There’s always the hope that our bodies will end up looking flawless Beyoncé’s or our current cover girl, model Miranda Kerr. Fitness pro and National Product Manager at Planet Fitness, Niamh McGuirk-Lubbe says there are possibly a couple of basic things you might be getting completely wrong.
1 Your workout isn’t balanced
In order to make your body stronger, variety in your workout is key. A weekly exercise schedule should include a balance of cardio, weight training, core exercises and stretch movements. Sticking to the same exercises each day is like playing the same Taylor Swift song over and over again, it gets boring. Your body will also get bored and you’ll plateau if you don’t challenge yourself. Don’t be a bore, switch it up!
2 Your workout is making you eat too much
You’re allowed a little reward after an intense workout right? No, WRONG! Equating a morning run to a slice of cake is damaging and is a trend I don’t suggest be adopted by anyone that’s serious about their fitness and health. McGuirk-Lubbe suggests you make your workout count by following a healthy eating plan that compliments your movement schedule. Discipline should be a part of your fitness lifestyle, discipline when exercising, eating and discipline not to eat a slice of chocolate cake after a workout.
3 You haven’t changed your diet
If you’re starting to up your exercise routine and are putting in more hours at the gym with the intention of toning or losing a few centimeters, its imperative that you re-look your nutrition. Planning your diet with the appropriate number of calories for weight management will make all the difference.
4 You’re not getting enough sleep
Getting sufficient rest is a critical factor when it comes to exercise. Your hormones can get affected due to lack of sleep, thing like cravings can creep up on you and ultimately leading to you gaining weight. If you’re constantly tired then you’ll easily lose the motivation required for a good workout and remain unfocused during the time, leading to poor results. Relax and rest up!
If you’re planning to up your exercise and run a marathon then here’s what you need to know before you start training.
