Wednesday night saw an intimate affair with good music, good food, good wine and great company at Stanley’s former beer yard, now Rocking Calexico. This musical event titled Between 2 Cacti hosted by Frans Karoo and Mix FM’s Kerry-Anne Allerston became a kick off to a series which plans to pay tribute to South African artists on their musical journeys.
Cindy Alter headlined the first instalment of the series with plush and nothing short of a perfect musical note. The sessions are planned to be monthly First-Wednesday affair. The audience were treated to two musical sets with filmed interviews with Alter in between the sets conducted by Allerston and Karoo.
Music
Cindy Alter of Clout fame, amusingly and frankly shared her remarkable musical journey, delving deeper into some of the hardships and challenges that artists of her time faced and paddled with. This of-course, accompanied with hits dating back to her duration as a female lead for the band Clout and as a solo artist. One amazing thing was with an audience that was primarily entailing of a generation beyond Cindy’s musical years, the music was relatable and the melodies had a familiar sound that birthed and remains a template to most modern artists.
Food
The delectable menu which had been decided by Alter served everyone to completeness. Calexico which spots vintage and edgy American-feel amenities primarily serves mix of American-style food, craft beers and a variety of other drinks. The setting creates a rustic modern atmosphere which seamlessly works into the mood the “Between 2 Cacti” event is trying to achieve. It’s a definite perfect spot for mid-week dinners, live music and just a general hangout spot for Joburgers.
