NYC’s trendsetting content creator, Gianna Christine, is embracing her single era—going on dates, dancing with her girls, and focusing on herself. This valentine’s Day, she’s proving that being single in the city is something to celebrate!
Dating in the Big City
Glamour: What’s the biggest misconception about dating in NYC?
Gianna: That nobody wants to settle down! I feel like a lot of people actually want to get serious quickly. But I’m not looking to settle down anytime soon, I love living alone!
Glamour: What are your go-to first date spots in the city?
Gianna: My favorite place to go on a first date is a jazz club. One of my best first dates was at Django in Tribeca. It’s a romantic vibe and you have the music to give you something to talk about and prevent any awkward silences!
Glamour: Have you had any hilarious or unexpected dating experiences in NYC?
Gianna: I became friends with a girl in my Pilates class and while we were talking about our worst dating experiences, we figured out we dated the same guy! It's a small world even in the big city.
Glamour: What’s your approach to dating while staying true to yourself?
Gianna: I never try to act a certain way to impress someone. I show my true personality from day one because if they don’t like it, then I figure it's not meant to be anyway!
Girls’ Night Out & The Best Spots
Glamour: What are your top three favorite bars or restaurants for a girls’ night out?
Gianna: Overstory is one of my favorite bars in the city. It’s on the 64th floor at the tip of Manhattan so it has incredible views, and I always meet cool people there.
2) Mēdüzā is my new favorite restaurant for a girls night out! They have delicious Mediterranean food, and it’s a trendy place with fun music.
3) Bemelmans Bar on the Upper East Side is also a classic. It’s an upscale jazz bar in the Carlyle Hotel with the best dirty martini. It’s always packed!
Glamour: Do you have any tips for planning the perfect Galentine’s Day celebration?
Gianna: Plan your ideal date night and invite your girls! You don’t need to wait to be in a relationship to celebrate at one of your bucket list places. It’s great with friends because you can get all glam together and have dinner at a nice restaurant, then go bar hopping! It’s also fun to treat each other with flowers or chocolate for the full Galentine’s experience.
Glamour: What’s your go-to drink or dish when you’re out with your girlfriends?
Gianna: If I’m drinking I love a French 75. It's a classic! I also love Diet Coke when I want a dry night. And we always get a side of fries and olives to snack on.
Embracing Singleness & Self-Love
Glamour: What inspired you to celebrate Valentine’s Day as a single woman this year?
Gianna: I always celebrate Valentine’s Day, whether I’m single or in a relationship! I’ll take any excuse to get dressed up and go out in the city. My best friend and I share our “want to try” restaurant lists so we are treating ourselves to a nice steakhouse we’ve been dying to try. Then we’ll see where the night takes us!
Glamour: How do you stay confident and happy while being single?
Gianna: I love being single! I think it’s so much more fun to get to know people without any pressure, and you can figure out what you’re looking for. When I’m single I have more free time, so I feel like I’m accomplishing more too!
Glamour: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to women who feel pressure to be in a relationship?
Gianna: Use the time while you are single to focus on yourself! Decorate your place, join a workout class, sign up for spontaneous activities! My friends and I try something new every month. We all just signed up for a salsa class. It’s great to invest in yourself, and when you go on dates you’ll have fun stories to tell.
Glamour: How are you focusing on yourself and self-love this year?
Gianna: I made goals this year for all aspects of my life- career, fitness, and self-care. It’s rewarding to pour your effort into yourself and see yourself leveling up. I also like to take myself on fun dates, like a nice dinner or a paint and sip class.
Just for fun...
Glamour: If you could plan your dream single-girl Valentine’s Day, what would it look like?
Gianna: My perfect day starts with getting a coffee and sipping on it while I watch an episode of Sex and the City. I’d go to a bathhouse spa day for a massage and to relax in the sauna. Then, I'd go to Brooklyn to shop for some cute vintage pieces. After that go home, style my new finds and get glammed up. Then grab dinner at a hot new restaurant with my girls and go to a concert!
Glamour: What’s one thing you love about being single in NYC?
Gianna: Instead of reserving prime weekend nights for date night, I get to have more fun nights out with my friends! There’s no pressure, and I can get dressed up in a cool outfit and we can explore somewhere new in the city.
Glamour: Any exciting projects or plans coming up that you’re excited about?
Gianna: I’m so excited for New York Fashion Week! It’s incredible seeing runway shows in person, and I love planning my looks for the events. I’m also planning lots of travel this year so I can hit more bucket list places!
