As one of the most famed sneakers in New Balance’s prestigious catalog, the 574 continues to write its own narrative today.
Since its 1980s debut, the humble 574 has been a reliable go-to sneaker, thanks to its versatility, durability and of course, good looks. A global mainstay and wardrobe permanent fixture, the 574 has never had to work hard to be loved - an it’s gone on to live many lives.
In 2021, the iconic model received a high-fashion refresh with luxury fashion house, Miu Miu and more recently, was updated to meet New Balance’s green leaf standard - the brand’s sustainability initiative which sees the shoe constructed with a portion of recycled content and more responsibly-sourced leather.
Each pack succeeds by bringing a unique feel to the shoe, whether by colourway or materials, however at the heart of it all, New Balance ensures that a red thread ties each and every release together.
They do this by continuing to look to their rich archive for inspiration, allowing them to advance forward, while retaining their classic elements. And that’s exactly what they’ve done with their latest 574 silhouette, the 574+.
The arrival of the 574+ marks an exciting milestone for the brand. This women’s-led iteration of the 574 reaches new heights, with the addition of an elevated midsole, for the first time ever in New Balance history.
A number of New Balance models have already experienced this raised treatment, like the CT302 and the 57/40, but the 574+ truly exemplifies what it means for the past to meet the future.
Take the name for example, which accurately depicts the 574+ itself. The iconic features of the 574 remain in place, such as suede uppers, premium materials, branded tongue labels and heel tabs. Then down below is where a new energy to the design is revealed – by way of a thicker midsole platform – a detail synonymous with today’s fashion-conscious crowd. This take is bolstered by lightweight EVA foam cushioning which provides extra comfort.
The New Balance 574+ will be releasing in a number of colorways, with five options to choose from. Beginning in September, it will be available in New Balance’s infamous grey shade, followed by additional staple colorways throughout the rest of the year.
In 2022, the notion that the brand’s lifestyle offerings cater to a widespread audience is truer than ever. Their OGs appease traditionalists, while their newer silhouettes reimagine what a pair of NBs could be.
