Can you describe your fashion aesthetic?
The best word to describe my style is experimental. I have know what works for me and doesn’t, but I’m always open to exploring how I can push the boundaries. I like classic silhouettes but with some edge and interest. My casual style leans more towards quirky street; then the pendulum swings and moves towards being more dressed up, interesting shapes, textures and colours. There is rarely an in between.
How has your style evolved since you entered the industry?
I’ve always had a distinct sense of style. Fashion has been one of my main conduits or self-expression along with my hair and make-up. I will say that it’s evolved along with me throughout the years. I used to thrift a lot when I started, and that dictated a lot of my fashion choices and aesthetic, but now that my body has developed and grown, I don’t always find pieces that fit. I’ve been privileged enough to explore the local designer scene more and also have some fun with clothing again. I also always have a reason to dress up, so I like to take advantage of that
What are the key pieces in your wardrobe that defines your personal style?
Lately it’s been my nails actually! I love trying new styles as an added accessory. I’ve come a long way since the solid colour gel. I’ve added some length and flair. I’m always excited to change my sets.
What is your opinion on fashion trends?
I love trends. I don’t think it’s necessary for everyone to follow them to the T, but take what resonates and chuck the rest. I loved the resurgence of the early 00s and 90s fashion. It speaks to my upbringing and is so culturally rich that it would make sense for me to buy into it. But I’d say, also constantrly pursue your personal style to avoid ebbing and flowing with every fashion high, so to speak. I like to strike a balance between the two.
As someone who is constantly in the public eye do you feel the pressure to look a certain way?
I do feel the pressure to always show up. It’s a blessing and a curse. Sometimes I do feel like I have no “off days” for example, but that’s also self imposed. I like to look good, so whenever I step out the house, be it to get groceries or to attend or MC an event, I will put a little something together. The degrees of it vary, but I do put in effort a lot of the time because when I feel good I know I’ll be confident to engage the world.
What’s the best fashion advice that someone has given you?
It’s more something I’ve intentionally garnered: Confidence. Just owning who you are and unpologetically taking up space. It takes practice, but you have to work on it to strengthen it. I’ve found that it’s the loudest truth and the most freeing, too. People aren’t always convinced by my decisions, fashion, hair and make up wise but because of how I carry myself, they get it. My man and I always joke that I can pull off literally anything because of this.
What are your must have items when dressing up for an event or a night out with friends?
A killer beat and a considered outfit. An alluring scent, mints on deck, a good lip combo, and a charged phone!
Are there any items that you’re excited to add to your wardrobe for the upcoming autumn/winter season?
I love the play of animal prints and reds at the moment, I’ve been noticing a lot of exaggerated pussy bows and the resurgence of boho frills! I love it all so much. The colder seasons are my favourite when it comes to fashion, I can’t wait to lean into it fully
