Fashion photographer Zander Opperman shares his personal style tips.
Glamour: Can you describe your style?
Zander: Simplistic/Utilitarian.
G: Who or what influences your style?
Z: Tommy Cash, Nadia Lee Cohen, Films by David Fincher, eastern European prisoners, construction plants.
G: What are the key pieces you wear to achieve your style?
Z: I would say a good belt and well cut, rolled up pants. I still struggle to just let my pants hang.
G: Favourite style icon?
Z: Theo Hutchcraft / Marilyn Manson
G: As a fashion photographer, is there a certain pressure to look good/stylish
Z: hmm, I don’t believe so…I always look pretty scrappy on set, same worn out sneakers or boots and a some sort of cricket hat. I mostly only dress nice when I’m not at work.
G: If you could choose to live in any fashion era, which one would you choose and why?
Z: Early 80’s…I think what synth-pop did to street style/the fashion world was quite cool.
G: Can you share your favourite accessories and the one clothing item you will never tire of?
Z: I always wear my vintage silver Casio watch and most days my bread tag neck piece that I created with the team at Black Betty. You will also probably find me wearing my pair of Diesel cargo pants. They’ll be worn to shit one of these days, and that will be a very sad day.
G: Favourite places to shop?
Z: I'm very bad at buying into fast fashion/new clothing, most of my wardrobe is thrifted or key pieces that are designer, shoes and jackets/coats,etc. I am so sure you can tell by looking at me that 90% of my closet is thrifted.
G: When you’re shooting do you have a “work” wardrobe?
Z: I usually just wear comfortable pants and shoes and almost always of a black hue with a tucked shirt but this is also literally all i wear…i think my look is quite basic. haha.
G: Which brands’ (locally or internationally) ad campaigns would you like to shoot?
Z: Comme des garcons & Lukhanyo Mdingi
