You want to start eating better, training more, and being healthier, but you just can’t do it today. You’ll definitely start next week. Definitely.
Sound familiar? If you know you need to start walking a healthier path, but you keep finding excuses not to, today is your day of reckoning. We’re going to take a closer look at all the reasons you keep finding to delay, until you realise that the only thing that’s stopping you from starting is you.
“I don’t have enough money.”
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need expensive foods, a pricey gym membership or costly workout gear. All you need is a pair of trainers and the willingness to start. Shop around for the best produce prices, buy food in bulk, and take advantage of the many free YouTube workouts or even just the road outside. It’s far less expensive than the bills associated with high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease.
“I don’t have time.”
No time to cook or work out during the week? No problem. Set aside an hour or two on the weekend to prepare your food ahead of time, and you’ll have lunches and dinners ready and waiting. And you don’t have to train for hours for it to be effective. High intensity interval training for 15-20 minutes is all you need, and you’re good to go.
“There’s a special occasion coming up.”
When isn’t there? It’s always someone’s birthday, a wedding, a party, a function – life would be spectacularly boring otherwise. So if you’re waiting for an extended period of time with no events to go to, you’ll be waiting forever. Start learning how to plan a healthy lifestyle around your social activities, and you won’t just have fun – you’ll look good doing it, too.
“I’m too tired.”
There’s no way around getting up early to train, or going to the gym after work. It has to be done, regardless of how tired you tell yourself you are. Work on getting more sleep little by little, and realise that once you make a commitment to yourself, the effort needs to be put in every day, rain or shine. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. And so are you.
