This weekend, Beyoncé announced that she will be going on a 44 day vegan diet. The ‘Drunk in Love’ singer invited her Bee Hive to join her as she prepares to get trim and toned for Coachella. “44 days until Coachella!! Vegan Time!!” she captioned a picture of an avocado-laden vegan dish. If you’re one of the many fans who’ve decided to join ‘her highness’ in her quest for health, we’ve made a list of 5 major keys to remember when going vegan like Beyoncé.

Let’s face it, most of us can’t afford a personal plant based chef; and unfortunately Queen B’s 22 Day Nutrition meal delivery service has not hit African shores.

Do your research
Before you take the plunge to eliminate meat and dairy from your diet, you need to take the time to research recipes, health benefits, and possibly visit your doctor to make sure that #TheVeganLife is going to be right for you.
Find substitutes
One of the hardest things about being vegan, is dealing with meat and dairy cravings. The best way to keep these cravings at bay is to look for substitutes. So if you’re addicted to cheeseburgers, consider finding a restaurant that serves vegan sliders with dairy-free cheese.
Embrace meal planning
Meal planning might be boring, but if you want to adopt a plant based lifestyle you’ll have to plan some of your meals in advance. Meal planning helps you avoid the tempatation of a) buying processed food, and b) cheating on your new diet.
Balance
Being vegan does not mean that you have to eat whole foods and lettuce leaves the entire day; you’d be surprised that some of your favourite snacks are actually certified vegan. To list a few: Oreas, Simba chips, Jelly Tots, ginger snap biscuits, and the list goes on.
Find a tribe
Fourty four days is aproximately 6 weeks. Six weeks can seem like an eternity if you’re going on a plant based journey alone. Rope in your mom, a best friend, your sister, or a colleague to join you and keep you accountable.
