How to find your personal balance this summer

You know as GLAMOUR girls we love living a healthy lifestyle right? That is why this summer we are all about finding personal balance. Of course we are already eating healthy, drinking plenty of water and exercising often, but for us finding that personal balamce is about letting our hair down, removing our wigs and weaves if we have to and just taking the time to relax and partake in fun activities. This may include binge-watching our favourite Netflix series on the couch, indulging in calorie-loaded treats, or simply ditching your gym session for a meet-up with friends.

Michelle Jooste, dietician at Vital, agrees with us."We are continually bombarded with mixed messages telling us that we need to live a healthier life; from what we should or should not be eating, to what is or isn’t in the best interests of our families. While it is important to live a healthy lifestyle, it is also impossible to follow all the rules.”

Here are three tips to finding your #personalbalance this summer:

1. Give yourself a break:

Worrying about whether the kids ate a healthy enough breakfast this morning, or whether you should have increased your workout intensity, will only stress you out more. While it is normal to consider how you can improve, know that it is ok to give yourself a pat on the back, and acknowledge your successes. For example, it is great that you got the kids to actually eat breakfast, and now that you went to gym, you can skip tomorrow and try again the next day.

2. Bend the rules a little.

You are used to uploading the images of those gorgeous salads and home-made carb-free vegan to-die-for-but-can’t-pronounce-the-name-of plates to Instagram; but have you taken some time to enjoy a waffle or calorie-loaded dessert too? Afford yourself some slack and bend the ‘rules’ a little to find those moments that may not be Insta-perfect, but boost your mood.

3. Make time for ‘me-time’.

As the festive season approaches, you may be feeling overwhelmed at the sheer list of things to get done.  Remind yourself that you can only take care of others and lists if you are at your optimal. This often means taking the time out for yourself – whether this means binge-watching your favourite Netflix series or having a candle-lit bath – but remember to ditch the guilt. You are entitled to giving yourself the freedom to enjoy some me-time.
