We’re excited to introduce our April/May Wellness issue featuring Oscar-nominated actress, Angela Bassett. The legendary Thespian is inspirational in a lot of ways and there are many reasons we love her. Here, we list five.
She’s s inspirational
The award-winning actress is also known for serving inspiration and pouring her heart into each role she inhabits. She ran so those who came after her could walk. In the cover story, Zandria Robinson captures Angela’s journey in the industry aptly. “She has enlivened women whose stories feel so familiar but whom we seldom see reflected in popular media. She has invited us behind the curtain into the interior lives of individual women who found themselves on the global stage.” (See pages 72-79).
Her aura
It’s hard to miss Angela’s effervescent presence. She’s also poised, unapologetic and commands respect.
She’s regal
Art imitates life as she rules over Wakanda as Ramonda in The Black Panther. In reality, she gracefully occupies space and owns her thrown. She reigns supreme.
She embodies excellence
She’s a trailblazer and has the awards to show for it. Her list of accolades include a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress, Critics’ Choice Movie Awards for Best Supporting Actress, numerous NAACP Image Awards as well as a Glamour Woman of the Year Award. In the issue, she opens up about her approach to her craft and attributes her work ethic to her late mother’s teachings.
She’s impactful on screen and behind the scenes
Angela Bassett has the ability to move people on and off screen. She also wears many hats including working behind the scenes as a director and producer. She made her directorial debut with the movie Whitney in 2015; a celebration of fallen icon Whitney Houston’s life. Together with her husband, Emmy-winning actor Courtney B. Vance, they bring stories to life through their production company, Basset Vance Productions. You can look forward to their next film, Heist 88.
