Occupational Therapist at Netcare Akeso George, Calyley Alberts to offers some practical tips and advice to help you navigate the holiday season. “Firstly, it’s important to allow yourself to choose which family gatherings you feel more comfortable attending.” While you may feel like you’re missing out if you don’t join in on the fun, she asserts that you shouldn’t allow ‘FOMO’ to drive you to attend every event you’re invited to. We’re here for single moms too…

Holidays are a great time to reconnect with friends and family but for single moms, this time of the year can also mean additional responsibilities. If the mere though of your nanny going away for the holidays is giving you anxiety, Counselling Psychologist, Irini Agathagelou-Klopper affirms that you’re not alone. Cognizant of the challenges single moms are faced with during the festive season, as they try to handle their responsibilities, Irini says it’s important to set realistic expectations. “Prioritise activities that are most meaningful to you and your children. Don’t feel pressured to do everything. Focus on a few memorable traditions rather than trying to tackle every event or gathering.” (Page 84)
