Pack away all the pink because the Pantone Color Institute has declared ‘Tangerine Tango’ as 2012’s Colour of the Year; deposing 2011’s reigning hue, honeysuckle in the process.
Though officially known as Pantone 17-463 among members of the interior and fashion design community (and ‘Tangie’ if you’re nasty); tangerine tango is described as “a vivacious, enticing hue,” by the color-matching company and “a provocative go-getter” that’s “a bit exotic, but in a very friendly, non-threatening way” and “a spirited reddish orange … sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive.”
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, refers to the up-and-coming colour as “an orange with a lot of depth to it … reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset.”
This is more than just a ploy to have people buy buckets of paint and a new pair of shoes though – the colour was selected for its “happy connotations,” and meant to brighten things up during these dark economic times.
Luckily you don’t have to throw out all your honeysuckle paraphernalia since it’s often, paired pretty well with citrus shades like Tangerine Tango.
