SA welcomes the Zeitz MOCAA in style

Cape Town’s already impressive Silo District is now even more of a jewel in the Mother City’s crown, thanks to its recent unveiling of the long-awaited Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa.

Over the past Heritage Day long weekend, the largest art museum in Africa opened its doors to the public for the first time, launching itself into high society with a flurry of art and architectural tours, press conferences, and panel discussions about the works on display at the museum.

Of course, no launch is every complete without an opening party, and SA’s most stylish celebs were out in full force at the gala event, hosted by famed fashion brand Gucci. Guests came dressed to impress, some adorned in head-to-toe Gucci, and all six floors of the museum were open for exploration, with Africa’s new crop of contemporary artists such as Zanele Muholi, Athi-Patra Ruga, Kudzanai Chiurai and Nandipha Mntambo proudly on display. Entertainment from DJ Zinhle provided the perfect musical backdrop, with guests dancing the night away in what is sure to become one of Cape Town’s biggest and most talked-about attractions.
