The much-anticipated Met Gala took place last night and what a spectacle it was! Celebrities brought their A-game and didn't disappoint.
The theme for this year was America: An Anthology of Fashion. It was built around the American style and its unsung heroes. The co-chairs for the gala were Blake Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds, Regina King and Lin Manuel Miranda. Unfortunately, Regina King was not present for the event due to the tragic death of her son. The dress code was “Gilded Glamour” and each guest and designer had to interpret the theme in their ensembles.
Blake Lively walked the red carpet and dazzled in her show-stopping Atelier Versace gown which was unveiled on the red carpet revealing the aqua side of her striking ensemble. Blake described her thought process behind the inspiration and design of her custom gown (to Lala Anthony during the Vogue live stream), "The draping [represents] the Statue of Liberty, plus the crown which has seven tiers, the Statue Liberty has seven rays representing the sun's rays and then also the 7 seas and continents which represents welcomeness, inclusivity, and freedom," she continued.
Some of the highlights of the evening were undoubtedly Khloe Kardashian who embodied old Hollywood Glamour. Some would argue that she outshined her sister Kim who dazzled in a Marylin Monroe original. The iconic dress she wore when she sang Happy Birthday to President John F Kennedy in 1962.
Gabrielle Union also stunned in a shimmering silver gown with a beautifully placed red flower and train to add drama to the classic number.
