South African luxury designer Thebe Magugu is known for his inventive collections that comment on history, culture, and politics. Now, the brand has partnered with adidas on an exciting sportswear line made from recycled materials.
For his debut collaboration, titled Finding Beauty, the designer drew inspiration from his native land, his heritage, and the women in his life - namely his mother, Iris Magugu, and his aunt Esther Magugu - who also feature as models for the sportswear line - as well as his grandmother.
The range features a spectrum of bright, vibrant colours, and includes swimwear, running jackets, tennis clothing and casual ready-to-wear pieces.
This is the first African-inspired collection for adidas and forms part of their mission to create a more sustainable world.
Over the weekend, the brands hosted a stylish launch event to celebrate the collection, attended by a host of celebrities, influencers, and South Africa’s fashion elite. Taking place at The View Boutique Hotel in Johannesburg, attendees long adidas x Thebe Magugu cloaks in a bold purple colourway to resemble the robes worn by members of the church Thebe Magugu attended as a child.
Guests enjoyed a royal luncheon, immaculate vibes, and great company. Here’s a look inside the event.
