South African fashion designer Palesa Mokubung’s Mantsho label, has collaborated with Swedish multinational fashion chain, H&M. The Mantsho x H&M collection is set to drop on in all South African stores, at exclusive flagship stores across the globe, and online on 15 August 2019. This is the first African designer who will have her fashion apparel at the retailer's stores worldwide.
The collection is made up of three fresh and vibrant prints featuring the signature Mantsho face/flower.
Mantsho (Southern Sotho for ‘black is beautiful’) has been creating stunning African inspired garments since 2004. This was after founder Mokubung gained some experience creating unforgettable designs under Nkhensani Nkosi’s Stoned Cherrie label. Mantsho has become renowned for its striking silk and woven fabrics, bold and edgy designs with distinct silhouettes and structures. We also love how Mantsho has always catered for the plus-size sisters too—way before it was the cool and fashionable thing to do.
‘Palesa is such an inspiring talent and personality. We love how she works with colour, print and silhouettes enhancing the female shape in a flattering and playful way,’ says Pernilla Wohlfahrt, Assortment Manager for Collaborations and Special Collections.
One of our favourite Mantsho's designs from her Autumn/Winter 2017/18 collection. Mokubung say this collaboration is a dream come true and is super excited to work with H&M. ‘This project has been a valuable journey so far and I cannot wait to share my passion and design with fashion lovers around the world. Mantsho prides itself as ready-to-wear brand and this exclusive online collection fulfills this promise.'
