Cold weather can cause just as much damage to your hair as hot weather, so try these tricks to keep your locks in top shape all the way to November!
Lay off the heat
You know the drill by now. Heat damages your hair, so keep heat styling to a minimum. If you have to use heat tools, use them on their coolest setting. If your roots get greasy, use dry shampoo to prolong your blow dry.
Use your shower as a salon
We all love hot showers in winter but hot water can dry out the hair. But don’t worry – we’d never tell you to have cold showers in winter! Instead, slather your locks in a moisturising hair mask, pop on a plastic shower cap, and turn up the heat! The heat from the water will help the mask penetrate the hair shaft. Once you’re clean, remove the cap, and rinse well with warm water.
Create a barrier
If your hair is naturally dry, or your live in a particularly cold area, create a protective barrier from the elements with a serum, hair oil or leave-in conditioner. The choice is yours – just use a product designed to moisturise and nourish your hair.
Work from the inside out
Look at taking a hair, skin and nail supplement. This will ensure your hair has all the nutrients it needs to grow healthily and strong. Healthy hair is easier to protect than damaged.
Protect your hair outdoors
It may seem like a no brainer, but very few of us actually protect our hair from the elements. Wear a hat, scarf or even a hood whenever you’re in cold weather. Be careful with woollen hats, though, they can tug and dehydrate the hair. If you’re worried, look for hats with silk or satin linings.
