Our beauty department had their eyes firmly fixed on one thing at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Johannesburg 2016: the incredible beauty looks! Here are their three favourite hair and makeup looks, and instructions for copying them!
The show: Khosi Nkosi
The look: Dramatic feline smokey eye
If you’re feeling bold and daring, this is a must try evening look.
You’ll need:
A black matte eye shadow, silver eye shadow and mascara.
How to:
Start by applying a thin layer of eye shadow primer, like [1] Palladio Herbal Eyeshadow Primer(R84.95) with your fingers.
Take sticky tape and apply it at a 45degree angle from the end of your lower lash line to the end of your eyebrows. This makes achieving the feline effect much easier and neater.
Take your silver eyeshadow, we love [2] Wet n Wild Color Icon Glitter Eye Shadow in Spiked(R30.95) and dab it on the inner corner of your eyelid. Focus on the lower lash line more by sweeping it till the middle of your lower lash line.
Cover the rest of your eyelid and lower lash line with black eye shadow; try [3] Essence Mono Eyeshadow in Black Is The New Black(29.95). Don’t go too crazy, start by dipping your brush into the eye shadow lightly and continue to build until you get the desired.
Blend the two colours so that you don’t end up with harsh lines but a sophisticated finished look.
Finish the look with two layers of mascara on the top and bottom lashes.
The show: Tamara Chérie
The look: Deep middle-part ponytail
We adore this perfectly pretty and oh-so-easy hairstyle that’s suitable for all occasions.
You’ll need:
Fine-tooth comb and mousse
How to:
Apply a tennis ball sized amount of mousse, like [1] L’Oréal Paris Studio Line Silk & Gloss Fixing Mousse (R84.95) to your hair and comb through.
Take the back of the come and make a part from the middle of your hairline and stop just before the middle of your head.
Comb the hair on the sides of your face behind your ears making sure there are no bumps. It doesn’t have to be perfectly slicked back and tight.
Secure your ponytail with a small elastic hair band. The mousse will also prevent the hair elastic from slipping down.
The show: SELFI
The look: Pale pink lips and cheeks
A look that’s always a DO is definitely a lady-like hue… Pink!
You’ll need:
Pink lipstick, pink blush, eyebrow pencil
How to:
Prep your face with a tinted moisturiser.
Fill in your brows with an eyebrow pencil, like [1] Almay Brow Defining Pencil in Brunette (R199) but leave your eyes bare.
Lightly brush the apples of your cheek with a light pink blush, we love [2] Maybelline New York Master Blush in Coral Fever (R99.95).
Finish your look with pink lipstick, like [3] Dolce & Gabbana Classic Cream Lipstick in BonBon (R540) without lining your lips.
