Netflix South Africa debuts its first-ever film collection, inviting audiences to the world of ‘Mjoloville’. Umjolo serves up four captivating films that explore the unique love lives of four women as they navigate the complexities of relationships, commitment, and self-discovery. A new tantalising film will drop each month from November to February, revealing a different chapter in each woman’s journey.
Umjolo: The Gone Girl
Set to premier only on Netflix on 8 November 2024, the first film follows Lethu (Sibongiseni Shezi), an event-planner maestro, hopeless romantic, and dreamer who seems to have it all: she’s successfully running her own business, booed up with the perfect man, and backed by a supportive network of family and friends.
Lethu’s life takes a hellish turn when her health is compromised, shattering the illusion of a perfect relationship with her fiancé, Lucky (Tyson Mathonsi). She leans on her friends Amanda (Thobeka Shangase), Zanele (Sibusisiwe Jili), and Thoko (Londeka Sishi) for support. Now at a crossroads, Lethu is trapped in heartbreakville, unable to break free from the emotional turmoil.
South Africa’s most famous MC and content creator, Sipho Alphi Mkhwanazi, brings his signature blend of wit and charm to the screen as the film’s narrator — Mam Sbosh. Umjolo: The Gone Girl also boasts an impressive roster of veteran talents, including Baby Cele and Meshack Mavuso as Tina Redman’s adoring parents and seasoned actors Gugu Gumede and Ntando Mncube.
All four films in the collection are produced by the award-winning production company Stained Glass, which has been at the forefront of iconic South African television shows for a decade.
