In light of the tragic and violent atrocities being committed against
After being missing for more than a week UCT Film & Media Studies student, Uyinene Mrwetyana, has been confirmed dead. Allegedly raped and murdered. A 42-year-old man has since been charged with the crimes as well as defeating the ends of justice.
The Clareinch Post Office employee, where first-year film and media studies student Mrwetyana was last seen on the afternoon of 24 August 2019, appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Additionally, the half-naked body of 14-year-old Janika Mallo from Heinz Park was found in her grandmother's backyard on Sunday morning and just last week 19-year-old Jesse Hess was found murdered in the bed of her Parow home.
These three tragedies and many more that go unseen on a daily basis bring the harsh reality of being a woman in South Africa to the fore, and question, what is actually done to protect us?
