Meet Joshua Emanuel, a 24-year-old pro kitesurfer reigning from Durban but now residing in the windy Cape Town to follow his dreams. The GLAMOUR team got to know a few of the kitesurfers taking part in this year’s Red Bull King of the Air 2018 competition and over the next three week’s we will be introducing you to the sexy kitesurfers! Josh feels kitesurfing is not just a sport to him, but his passion. He also enjoys stand up paddling, surfing, skateboarding, working with people young and old, travelling and seeing new places. What would you say is your best attribute, and why?
My main drive and focus of were I want to go with the sport and the belief I have in it.
Who or what inspires you?
There are two people in the sport that have really inspired me to push myself, first one being Nick Jacobsen, the things he does is the stuff I dreamt of doing when I was younger and before I actually met him he was one of my main role models in this sport. And the second rider I look up to is Ruben Lenton and the reason for that is the storm chasing that he does and I actually went out and kitesurfed in the storm last year in Cape Town and it was one of the best experiences of my life.
What’s your idea of a perfect date?
For me, the perfect date is being outdoors, maybe go down to the beach, have a picnic and watch the sunset.
What’s your favourite drink?
My favourite drink after a kite session is definitely a beer!
What fills the spot at the top of your dream destination list?
Somewhere I would really like to visit is New Zealand. It would be great to be able to kitesurf there and explore the country.
Do you have any regrets when it comes to past relationships?
Yes, I have made mistakes in my past relationships that I deeply regret but I feel like it has helped me grow as a person and teach me a lot of life lessons.
Who is your style icon?
To be honest, I’m not that interested in style. You’ll mostly find me in a pair of baggies and a t-shirt, mostly because I’m on the beach most day so I just wear what’s most comfortable for me.
