Ooh la la – this week’s Man Candy Monday is none other than Martin Picandet, 41, better known as Martin Solveig, the French DJ, singer, songwriter and record producer. His passion for electronic music was inspired by his first DJ sets at the age of 18, and he’s never looked back since. Best known for the single ‘Hello,’ certified gold worldwide, he’s also collaborated with stars like Dragonette, Alma and Tkay Maidza too. We caught up with him to find out what really goes through the mind of this musical genius.
What would you say is your best attribute and why?
I’d say that I was given a most wonderful gift: musical creativity. As far as I can remember, I’ve always had music in my head. And I’m a very funny guy!
Who or what inspires you?
People. Especially the little details and specificities that make each individual so unique.
What’s your idea of a perfect date?
There’s no perfect date! No perfect plan! I love surprises and unexpected ideas.
What’s your favourite drink?
Moscow Mule, for the ginger touch of course!
What fills the spot at the top of your dream destination list?
Iceland.
Do you have any regrets when it comes to past relationships?
No, I’m not a backwards-looking person. The past is part of my journey but dwelling on it will never change it, so it’s best to focus on the moment. What you do with your life and what you’re going to make of it is by far the best way to enjoy it.
Who is your style icon?
ASAP Rocky because he mixes all styles and is at ease no matter what the genre.
Who is your WCW (Woman Crush Wednesday)?
Definitely Alma. She’s the singer of my last single ‘All stars’. She’s a great young pop artist, and she’s so unique.
