During the 2024 awards season, there was no reputable Best Dressed list that doesn’t include Colman Domingo. The actor racked up nominations for his role as the Civil Rights activist Bayard Rustin in Rustin, and dominated red carpets along the way. With his keen eye and fearless sense of style, it only makes sense that Domingo takes on a new role: co-chair of the 2025 Met Gala.
What is most appreciated from Domingo, and his stylists Wayman and Micah, is the palpable effort that goes into every look, no matter the occasion. Outside of the marquee awards shows, many male actors are inclined to phone it in, sartorially speaking. But not Domingo. Arguably his best outfit to date, the actor wore an impeccably tailored mustard yellow suit and a textured gold coat from Valentino Haute Couture to the Critics Choice Awards.
And even when he does opt for a traditional tuxedo, he makes it his own with unexpected accessorizing. Domingo isn’t afraid to experiment with jewelry, embellishing his suit jackets with brooches, and layering necklaces, rings and bracelets. His most touching piece is a pinky ring that belonged to Bayard Rustin himself.
“True to Colman’s Sagittarius nature he really loves to play and have fun in every facet of his being so his style and sense of fashion fully thrives. We love putting him in tailored fits that highlight his stature, and we love using accessories to innovate and elevate his looks,” Wayman and Micah tell Vogue. Though, they admit, Domingo’s magnetic personality gives every look that extra je ne sais quoi: “To top if all off, Colman's energy, confidence, and charisma always take every red carpet moment to the next level.”
A sensation in the Vogue Slack channels, Domingo has caused a similar stir on social media. “How do you expect me to wear a suit when Colman Domingo walks the earth?!” one person posted on X. “Colman Domingo you have to stop. You smoke too tough. Your swag too different. Your bitch too bad. They’ll kill you,” another wrote. We concur.
