Let’s be honest: who didn’t start off the new year with some sort of resolution involving weight loss or health? The festive season really does take a toll on our bodies, leaving us feeling less than energetic at the start of the year (thanks you so much, mince pies).
The best way to give your body the necessary boost it needs is a good old detox. Don’t be put off by the D word! While applying detoxing principles is important, we don’t need to go to extremes at the start of the year.
The renowned nutrition expert, Patrick Holford has given us a great recipe to kickstart your year and your day. This thick, soaked muesli is delicious and particularly nutritious, as all the ingredients are raw, maximising the vitamin, enzyme and antioxidant content.
Ingredients
40g whole rolled porridge oats
1 tbsp ground almonds or desiccated coconut
1 tbsp seed mix (containing things like pumpkin, sunflower, sesame and flax seeds)
½ small apple, grated
1 tbsp berries, such as raspberries or blueberries
½ tsp ground cinnamon
Method
Place all the ingredients in a bowl and cover with double the amount of boiling water. Stir and leave to thicken for a couple of minutes until the oats have soaked up the water and become soft and plump.
This muesli recipe is taken from ‘The Holford 9-Day Liver Detox’ book, by Patrick Holford and Fiona McDonald Joyce.
