Celeb wedding alert: Mari Hansen and Luc Lenferna de la Motte

The picturesque Cape Winelands was the perfect backdrop to bring two families from opposite ends of the world together. Mauritian-French analyst and model Luc Lenferna de la Motte and Norwegian-born model Mari Hansen chose a historic Cape Dutch Manor House to say their vows in front of loved ones.

THE MEET

In early 2013, I came to Cape Town for the modelling season. it was here, while staying with mutual friends of ours, that I met Luc. I was quite indifferent to Luc at first, but he was determined to change my mind! His charm eventually won me over and we started spending all our time together. After a month, Luc invited me to move in with him while I was working in Cape Town.

Last year, Luc surprised me by proposing in front of our family and friends at Kirstenbosch Gardens! I didn’t suspect anything and we both cried a little once I’d, obviously, said yes. A lot of celebratory champagne was consumed that day.

THE DRESSES

I’ve always loved simple yet elegant clothing, so Jacques LaGrange was the only option for my wedding gown. I chose two different gowns – one for the ceremony and the reception, and another for the first dance and after-party.

The first dress was more of a timeless piece – ivory with a beautiful hand-sewn petal pattern.I loved the small touches to the dress too: a bow to break up the ‘typical’ wedding dress silhouette and pockets for tissues and other little things. It fit like a glove from the first time I put it on and I felt like every bride should, like a princess.

The second dress was completely different. An oriental-inspired gown that was hand-beaded with the most beautiful white glass beads. The dress itself is such a statement piece that no jewellery was needed, but my stylist added orchids in my hair to complete the look.

THE WEDDING

Rickety Bridge Winery was the first location we visited. We’re a very relaxed couple but like things done correctly, so this was the perfect place. It’s a very intimate venue but designed to allow it to be shaped however you like. We had a very boho-chic vibe that reflected us as a couple – relaxed and goofy, yet sophisticated. Our guests were treated to lawn games and a picnic in-between the ceremony and the reception. The team behind our big day, Red Carpet Concepts using To-Netts Decor Hire, Fynbosch Florist and Mrs Jones Cakes, did such an excellent job in knowing what to put where and everything just fit perfectly. When we saw the venue ready right before the guests arrived, it was truly something out of a fairy-tale. Not much leaves us speechless, but this did.
