Oversized shirts are literally *all over* our Instagram feeds right now, so here's how to style them (plus the best to buy, of course)

Basically, go large or go home

You know that a classic white shirt is a wardrobe essential? But right now it’s oversized shirts that are making a case to become the most useful piece in your wardrobe. We’ve spotted literally *everyone* on Instagram wearing a version during our scrolling sessions. Most often it’s The Frankie Shop’s cult cotton version in emerald green or pale blue.

As we switch seasons, wardrobe staples come into play, and there’s nothing more classic than a shirt, although these oversized versions give them a 2021 twist. Some of our favourite styles this year have had the Alice in Wonderland treatment to either supersize them or shrink them down (like cropped cardigans and cropped blazers.) Oversized shirts are joyfully versatile. Wear them as a dress, as a beach-side cover-up, or with slouchy tailoring. Half-tuck a shirt into denim shorts or slip one over cycling shorts and a crop top. Add heels and a clutch bag if you’re going out or wear with trainers for a Hailey Bieber off-duty aesthetic.

For more styling ideas, our favourite Instagrammers have all the inspiration on how to wear an oversized shirt...

Wear An Oversized Shirt As A Dress

@Lornaluxe puts forward the case that oversized shirts (this one is from The Frankie Shop) can be worn as dresses (super helpful if you have a tiny luggage allowance on your long-awaited holiday...) That colour-clash of emerald and hot pink is making us drool.

Work A Cotton Co-ord

You might have guessed that @Slipintostyle is our current shirt-spiration and she also wears The Frankie Shop’s iconic Granny Smith green shirt with matching shorts for a fresh take on suiting. Any colour co-ord would work, though.

Do Clever Layers

@Jiyoungdorner chose a shirt that finishes on her skirt’s hemline for a clever layered look on holiday. It looks like a dress with sweet details but it’s actually a shirt and skirt combo. Clever, huh?

Leave It Untucked

@SymphonyofSilk goes smart with a slick pair of shorts and heels that nod to the shirt’s workwear origins, but she still keeps it cool by letting the shirt hang out. Tucking it in would look too smart and make this feel preppy, instead of perfectly breezy.

Wear It Like A Jacket

@LindsayHolland uses her shirt like a lightweight jacket over an evening *lewk* of bra top and mini-skirt. It means you don’t have to check in a jacket at the cloakroom. Result.
