In the pouch it goes.
Bum bags/fanny packs/belt bags... whatever you want to call them, the tourist-inspired (and practical AF) accessory staple of the 90s is set to become a mainstay in your summer 2021 wardrobe. Seriously - barely a day has passed when one of our favourite influencers hasn't stepped out with a bum bag slung across their body of late. And we're here for it.
The bum bag has been gaining traction for a while now. Cast your minds back to summer 2019 and the likes of Taylor Swift and Bella Hadid were seen rocking iterations by Gucci - namely the ever-popular Gucci Marmont leather bum bag. Fast forward to 2020 and bum bags were seen splashed across the Roberto Cavalli Autumn Winter 2019 catwalk, while Jean Paul Gaultier showcased a subtle take on the trend in its spring 2020 couture collection. We also saw Jacquemus serve up a plethora of belt bags in the autumn 2020 season - from neutral-toned body bags to smaller coin purse offerings.
In 2021? Mega Scandi brand Ganni - as founded by husband and wife duo Nicolaj and Ditte Reffstrup and run from their Copenhagen atelier - has dropped two printed bum bags that have been crafted from recycled fabric. Head this way for their leopard print bum bag and over here for their cute AF rose-printed design. Elsewhere, Reebok and Victoria Beckham have teamed up to create another stylish activewear collection - following the success of their first - featuring a durable canvas belt bag with plenty of pockets to store the essentials, while Prada's Sidonie two-tone leather belt bag has already been spotted on Yara Shahidi and Kaia Gerber. It's only a matter of time before it takes over your Instagram feed.
Forget what you thought you knew: bum bags are no longer the garishly bright polyester styles you'll remember from the 80s and 90s. Nope: bum bags have had a sophisticated glow-up, and they're just *perfect* for long dog walks/days at the park/weekend breaks/shopping on the IRL high street.
