In many ways, you should approach a first date like a job interview. Your ensemble should represent who you are: that you’re intelligent, sexy and comfortable. That doesn’t mean, of course, that you shouldn’t dress to impress, but there’s already so much anxiety when it comes to first dates – why make it more nerve wracking? Comfort allows for confidence to shine through – that, and a smile are the best accessories you can take with you anywhere and for any occasion.
Keep in mind the date’s environment as it will be an important aspect in deciding what to wear. If you’re going to play putt-putt, heels are a no-go! While you want your outfit to be simple, you still want to leave a positive and lasting impression and you want your outfit to be an extension of you. As significant as the outfit may be, your personality is key. At the end of the day you do need to find out if you two are compatible – that will prove impossible if you’re taking on a pseudo-identity.
First date GLAMOUR DOs:
• Natural make up all the way.
• Ensure your outfit is comfortable because that will put you more at ease on an occasion that is rather nerve-racking.
First date GLAMOUR DON’Ts:
• Wearing overwhelmingly bold prints. You’ve already got your date’s attention!
• Showing too much cleavage or leg if that’s just not your style.
Cool Option:
Denim and leather is the perfect combination if it’s a cool edgy look that you’re after. Plus, it’s unbelievably comfortable which allows you to focus on the person you’re with instead of on your own discomfort at the hands of fashion. This kind of look is great for the movies, a picnic or a music gig – a laidback look for a laidback date.
Classy Option:
For a date that requires a bit more of a formal ensemble – like a classy restaurant, a show or the opera (it could happen) – throw on the heels, a structured jacket or trench coat and a chic clutch. An embellished dress is a lovely way to add a touch of elegance and fun.
Classy Option

Zara clutch bag– R500
