How exciting that we finally get to enjoy the spectacle of runway shows with actual crowds in attendance vs online only! Yes we are all aware that we are still in a pandemic but fortunately the Omicron variant has proven to be less severe than the previous variant. With safety protocols in place we could enjoy the fashion crowd in the latest runway looks.
The Fall/Winter 22 Menswear shows just ended and with a host of celebrities in attendance. We got to see Kanye West and new girlfriend Julia Fox at the Kenzo show under the creative direction of Nigo. As well as Pharrell Williams wearing a pair of custom-designed Tiffany sunglasses sitting alongside Felicia the goat.
The anticipation of the Kenzo show was palpable as everyone waited with baited breath for the unveiling of his collection. The Japanese designer heralded a fresh chapter for the House of Kenzo and did not disappoint. There is an apt saying by Maya Angelou, “You can’t really know where you are going until you know where you have been.” His deliberate use of the same venue Galerie Vivienne that Kenzo Takada used for his first show 5 decades earlier was an homage to the founder and a perfect introduction to the future of the brand under his helm. Referencing the past while designing for the future has ensured that the brand is in good hands under his leadership.
The collection featured the mix of prints and optimism which has been a signature of the brand since its inception. Some of my personal favourites were the denim and poppy print looks as well as the varsity jackets which have made a huge comeback.
The House of Kenzo has ushered in a new dawn!
