Fashion Director Tania Durand shares her most-wanted items for the festive season

As we enter the festive season with gleeful expectation for some much-needed R’n’R with family, we first have to navigate the challenging mission of finding the perfect gifts for our loved ones. We know this can be an extremely daunting task; and with that in mind, I’ve curated my own very personal gift guide that could hopefully serve as inspiration for your festive shopping.

1. Perfume

Perfume is always a good idea. But I would suggest only gifting a fragrance if it’s someone you know extremely well, like your bestie, or your sister or mom. My sisters and I would gift my Mom her favourite fragrance, Bvlgari, almost every year. My preferred scents for the season are two very recent finds: La Vie est Belle L’Elixir by Lancôme, for women, and Chloé L’Eau de Parfum Intense (2024) by Chloé, a unisex fragrance, which were both released this year. Perfect for summer, as they are both described as fruity, oral scents.

2. Jewellery

Jewellery is another firm favourite as a gift; and with a variety of options available for every budget, my personal recommendation is Swarovski jewellery. Crystals have the same allure as diamonds and are often mistaken for them, but at a much more affordable price point. A pair of earrings and/or a bracelet that will sparkle whether it’s day or night is a must for me.

3. Skincare

For the beauty lovers, replenishing a must-have skincare or beauty item is a win. As we know, skincare and beauty products are quite expensive; having someone offer to replace it as a gift is extremely thoughtful. Sisley Paris Phyto-Teint Perfection Foundation is a combination of makeup and skincare, as it improves your skin over time; for me, as someone who suffers from acne-prone skin, a foundation that not only offers coverage but helps improve skin is a winning combo. And Elizabeth Arden Primer and Stila Blush are definite stocking fillers in my book.

4. Shades

Shades are always a good idea for a gift. After releasing their latest styles, Dolce & Gabbana have gone to the top of my wish list.

5. Dresses

The drop-waist dress is one of the biggest trends around since Quiet Luxury exploded on to the fashion scene a few seasons ago. H&M does a classic and chic version at a great price – perfect for a Christmas dinner.

6. Swimwear

Local brand Beach Cult does some really awesome swimwear that would be a great addition to any wardrobe – including my own!

7. Bags

Handbags are a great accessory to elevate your out t and this summer I’m coveting two options. One local brand – Project Dyad, found at AKJP – has a stunning version of the Loewe Flamenco purse, and the fact that it’s locally made is special. Zara has a stunning basket bag that is perfect for a day at the wine farm. Full disclosure: I actually have a similar version I bought a few years ago, and it’s been a true investment.
