New York Fashion Week SS18 has come to an end. From Flamenco ruffles to hot pink and plus-size lingerie, here is a quick round-up of all our favourite trends that we can’t wait to try this summer!
Delpoz | Marc Jacobs | Tom Ford
1 Rainbow colours
This season sparks a return to bolder hues, saying goodbye to pastel tones in favour of a brighter palette. From Kermit green to zesty yellow and eye-popping fuchsia, this trend is an opportunity to showcase the most shocking shades, and in large doses too. Collections were painted every colour of the rainbow, with Tom Ford pairing hot pink with red, Marc Jacobs going orange, green and psychedelic, and Delpozo luxuriating in green, pale pink and bright yellow.
Victoria Beckham | Public School | Rosie Assoulin
2 Checkmate
Whether it’s an intricate gingham or oversized tartan print, checks are one of the hottest trends right now. Not confined solely to the NYFW SS18 runways, it’s a pattern loved by street-stylers too. Fine check, or ‘the graph-paper look’ as Victoria Beckham calls it, is having a moment, with Rosie Assoulin and Public School also jumping on board.
Leanne Marshall | Chromat | Prabal Gurung
3 Diversity
Perhaps snubbing its nose at Trump’s assault on minorities, the notoriously snobbish world of fashion is starting to relax its rules a bit. Plus-size models are having their moment and then some, with famed cover girl Ashley Graham walking for Prabal Gurung and Michael Kors, and plus-size only collections being shown by Addition Elle and Chromat.
Oscar De La Renta | Jeremy Scott | Carolina Herrera
4 Flamenco
It’s a timeless summer fantasy, so it’s no surprise flamenco-inspired pieces turned up on the runway, with everyone from Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta to Phillip Lim and Jeremy Scott choosing flounces and ruffles for a flirty, sensuous feel.
Adam Lippes | Brandon Maxwell | Area
5 White-out
Designers championed the ‘90s aesthetic this year, the white suit a particular standout from designers like Adam Lippes, Tom Ford and Brandon Maxwell. It’s a trend that hearkens back to the glory days of megawatt fashion, and we’re more than ready to get our glam on!
