‘The return’ has been a recurring theme this year. We’ve been showing our street style, ditching boring neutral loungewear in favour of a wardrobe resurgence on the red carpet and in-person runway shows.
What has the year in fashion looked like since we emerged from this pandemic? There have been plenty of reasons to be excited about the fashion scene this year due to numerous local and international collaborations, celebrities experimenting with their red-carpet comebacks, and our favourite designers rolling out new trends for us to try on the streets. This year, most of us have felt liberated to dress however we want.
I think everyone can agree that this year was a great time to develop and explore our own fashion style again, drawing inspiration from platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and Pinterest, which have helped us see what we really want style-wise after months of chilling indoors, dreaming of a wardrobe other than loungewear.
Numerous trends have emerged this year. We’ve tossed several fads out, but others have remained and become a staple in consumers’ minds. Fashionistas worldwide have flocked around this season’s trends.
HEAD TO TOE COLOUR
This has been the year of colour, from the best pink dresses to blazers updated for the new season. Forget neutrals, tans or classic creams; the fashion colour trends for 2022 have been all about bold and bright hues, as seen from head to toe on Christian Dior and Versace models.
SKIN IS IN
We can’t deny cutouts are here to stay! Please stick with us on this one... We know the idea of cutout sections of clothes can be daunting, but while the catwalks might’ve shown a whole load of flesh, you can wear yours subtly – we promise!
FROM MINI TO MICRO
It’s no secret skirts are getting shorter – thanks to brands including Chanel, Versace, Missoni and Miu Miu, the micro-mini-skirt is one of the defining trends for 2022. When the teeny-tiny silhouette first became popular in the late ’60s and ’70s, it challenged social norms, but this look became even shorter as pop-culture history progressed.
HIGHER HEIGHTS
If you haven’t heard of or seen sky-high platforms yet, get ready! They’re going to elevate your workout to new heights (literally).
Very tall platforms, heels with geometric shapes and details and even a comeback for sporty sandals has been on the agenda.
Y2K MANIA
We’re living in a time when what was cool 20 years ago is having a resurgence. The Y2K era’s fashion is synonymous with butterfly clips, Bratz dolls, and everything Britney – low-rise bottoms, halters, crop-tops and baby tees.
