The world’s biggest Afrobeats festival, Afronation, took place in Portugal this past weekend, bringing together the best in hip-hop, RnB, dancehall, amapiano, Afro house and more.
Three of the biggest stars in Nigeria (and possibly, the world) right now - WizKid, Davido, and Burna Boy - took turns headlining the the three-day festival, while South Africa’s explosive amapiano genre was represented loud and proud by the likes of Uncle Waffles, DNB Gogo, Major League DJz, Kamo Mphela, and more who took over the Piano People stage.

"Piano to the world“ was definitely the objective of their performances.

“It’s mainly about taking the SA sound to the world. We are getting international recognition,” says one of half of Major League duo, Banele. “I feel like the Major League brand is being celebrated more outside SA. We’ve done a lot of cover shoots, bigger shows. Our shows are much bigger outside SA,” he told TshisaLIVE.
The love and collaborative spirit between the continents biggest stars was definitlely palpable throughout the festival.
“There are no gatekeepers to this shit! We are all here to win!” shared Zakes Bantwini on Instagram, along with pictures of him with DJ Maphorisa, Focalistic and Young Stunna.
Meanwhile, a video emerged online of WizKid telling security to allow everyone in to his backstage area.

Uncle Waffles as usual wowed the crowd while musician Musa Keys seemed stunned at the talent of a female fan who hopped on stage to dance for him.
