2016 is proving to be Chanelle Sardinha’s year!

After just being announced as the first female presenter on SABC 3’s Mancave Show, Chanelle Sardinha has another exciting announcement to make.

With a passion for arts and performance, Chanelle is investing more time and energy into her acting career, applying her trade in a new and exciting Superhero TV series, Jongo, produced by Chris and Colleen Lawrance with directors Gareth Crocker and Fred Wolmarans.

Playing a medical agent, Chanelle has to complete an almost impossible mission, making the new series one filled with excitement and adventure.

What was the filming experience like, and are you finished with filming for the first season?

Shooting  Jongo  was an incredible experience. The crew were mindful and extremely accommodating of my busy schedule which led to us shooting early mornings, late evenings and on weekends. The cast and crew were super fun and an absolute joy to work with. It’s probably one of the most comfortable sets I’ve been on which made the acting easy and authentic.

How many episodes will you appear in?

Due to the producers only scouting me half-way through production, in Season 1, I feature in 2 episodes. We are all very optimistic about the way in which the show will be received by audiences- words are circulating about a season 2 already, so watch this space.

Who is your character and could you relate your own life to that of hers?

I play a medical agent of Jongo who helps train Eli to become a superhero to complete an almost impossible mission. Besides the fact that the writer decided to keep my name as Chanelle in the TV show, I was able to relate to the character in a big way. One of my passions is mentoring young girls as well as training people and giving them advice in terms of health and fitness. This is essentially what I do on the show with Eli – I train him mentally and physically to be the best that he can be which is extremely rewarding for my character.

Who do you act alongside, and what was that like?

I mainly act alongside the two lead characters, Eli and Kay. They are both very humorous and make filming fun and exciting. They are also both very natural actors and are easy to feed off.

Why is this show important to you as an actress?

Being Africa’s first superhero TV series, it is an honour being a part of  Jongo. Creating something which we feel is different and unique to our local TV screens is extremely fulfilling.

What important message can you take out of the show that you want the viewers to embrace?

With perseverance, hard work and determination you can do anything you wish to achieve.

Where can we catch it?

Jongo is airing on BET (channel 129) every Monday at 21h00. It will soon be on eTV too.
