The nail art trend is great news for anyone who wants a one-of-a-kind manicure. Nail art designs just keep getting crazier, bolder and more intricate, but if you’re doing it yourself, we’d suggest starting simple – like this diagonal nail art spotted in a Lauren Moffatt fashion show. Master this one and you’ll be able to go wild with nail art, updating the look with the season’s latest colours and textures.
1. You’ll need two different nail polish colours, a good top coat and some sticky tape. Start with your lighter colour and apply one coat of nail polish of, then wait for it to dry completely before applying a second coat.
2. Once the first layer has dried (and we know that it’s tempting to rush ahead, but really – wait!), stick a piece of tape diagonally across your nail more or less halfway. Be sure to seal off your nail right to the cuticle, but don’t press down too hard – you don’t want to pull off the first coat of polish.
3. Using your second, darker colour of nail polish, paint the area without tape on it. You’ll probably need to apply a second coat to achieve a bold look.
4. Peel off the tape carefully, and touch up any areas where the lighter nail polish has been peeled off.
5. Wait for the second layer of the nail polish to dry (again, we’re serious about this step!) then apply a fast-drying top coat. This will make your nail art last longer and give your nails a beautiful shine.
