Celebrity hair and makeup artist, Morag Steyn says there’s a lot going on in the industry, and that she draws inspiration from her surroundings and current trends, but what sets her apart is that she focuses on how she makes someone feel and not necessarily what she does or says. ‘I feel many artists express their work through what they are going through personally or it may be de ja vu from a past lifetime.’
The global artist, who is now based in SA, India, and Dubai says as artists they also inspire each other. ‘Right now in Dubai I am inspired by the glitz and the glam, it’s absolutely fascinating.’ But she is all about sharing the knowledge she has acquired over the years in the industry.’I genuinely try to accommodate all the up and coming artists who request to assist me, as I have once been there and I know how hard it is, I never want other artists to struggle, it’s a great industry and I truly love what I do.’
From time to time, Steyn imparts knowledge to beauty aficionados through masterclasses. She previously hosted Fashion Lab, a radio show on Cliff Central, where she shared tips, tricks and beauty secrets. This was a great segment and I loved it, with all my travelling it became virtually impossible to continue.’
But she still hosts practical masterclasses and has a couple up on her sleeve, nationally, starting with Durban, at The Capital Pearls Hotel, Umhlanga Rocks, this Friday.
