She’s worked with the likes of Minnie Dlamini and Rolene Strauss, and she isn’t slowing down yet. Makeup artist to the stars, Louise Volschenk, has this to say about her enviable job:
How long have you been doing Minnie Dlamini’s makeup?
This was my second time working with Minnie. So far, it’s always been fun and there’s never a dull moment. She is such an incredible person and she’s so easy to work with. Definitely no ‘diva vibes’ with Minnie.
What was your inspiration for the Good Practice Awards look?
Minnie is so gorgeous, she can look good in anything. Because she was the MC of the event and on stage, I decided to go quite dark with her makeup. Of course, no stage look is complete without lots of bling around the eyes.
How long have you been a makeup artist?
I’ve been doing makeup my entire life, and I had my first bridal client when I was just 14 years old. I’ve been teaching other people to do theirs since I was at school.
What advice would you give someone who wants your job?
Never be discouraged, always try new things and practice makes perfect. Get proper training and always stay on top of new trends, or you’ll be left behind in this industry.
Which other celebrities have you worked with?
I’ve worked with quite a few! Rolene Strauss did a class with me so she would be able to do her own makeup for the Miss World pageant when she won the title. I ‘ve worked with Liesl Laurie and many of SA’s well-known singers and actors.
