Facial-cleansing wipes are so popular that they practically have their own aisle at the store. But why should you reach for these dirt-nixing time savers?
A wipe is better than nothing
They used to be little more than glorified baby wipes, but these days most wipes come packed with proven active ingredients; look for ones with glycerine, which helps to lock in moisture.
There’s a correct way to use them
Yes, convenience and speed are the point, but wipe until you see nothing on the cloth (which might mean you need two or three, one wipe for eye makeup and another tailored to your complexion). If you have acne, avoid scrubbing. The friction will cause little red bumps on your skin.
Don’t reach for one every night
Think about it like you would if you were doing the dishes. The suds are important, but so is a thorough rinse. If you just wipe the inside of a coffee carafe, there will be residue. Some of the residue might be beneficial (peptides, moisturiser, exfoliants), but some will be grime and, if you have sensitive skin, any residue at all is a recipe for irritation.
