Lips tell a beautiful story this season, but which tale suits you best? These tips will help you find out.
Know your skin’s undertone
If talk about cool and warm undertones have left you a little stumped, Elizabeth Arden’s senior makeup artist, Lucoh Mhlongo explains that it’s the colour underneath the surface of your skin. “Look at the veins on the inner part of your wrist. If they are blue, then you have a cool undertone,” says Lucoh. “If they appear more green, your undertone is warm.”
This affects the way you choose your lipstick shade. When choosing a red lipstick, for example, those with a blue undertone will choose a blue-red shade and those with a warm undertone will choose from the orange-red palette instead.
Colour according to your complexion
If you’re pale…
Flatter your complexion with shades of beige, light peach and soft rose. “It’s all about fleshy tones,” says Lucoh Mhlongo. “And when you want to go bold, use rich tones of lighter pink or a red lipstick with blue undertones.”
If you’re medium-toned…
“Your complexion radiates in apricot shades, medium pinks and deep reds,” says Lucoh. “Deep rose shades will also add definition.”
If you’re dark…
Go for berries, dark fuschia, brown reds, plums and deep magenta. “And when you want to go nude? Use a Golden beige,” suggests Lucoh.
