A gorgeous glow, an even complexion, a smooth finish – yes, we’re describing your skin! A simple skincare shake up and some good habits are all you need to achieve it. Lindsay Fernandez, Elizabeth Arden National Training Manager, tells us what to do today to get that result.
1 Choose the right cleanser
Not sure which cleanser is the right one for you? Typically milky cleansers are great for drier/dehydrated skin types, while an oily cleanser like our Ceramide Replenishing Cleansing Oil is great for cleansing and is brilliant for oilier skins and removing makeup. Doing this incorrectly can cause breakouts! Lindsay explains, “Cleansing your skin helps you get rid of all the impurities, makeup, excess oils and dirt, which can all build up on your skin and clog your pores, causing nasty breakouts. Once you’ve removed the bad stuff, your skin is ready to receive the good stuff from your other products.” We love Elizabeth Arden Prevage Anti-Aging Treatment Boosting Cleanser (R595).
2 Exfoliate regularly
“The dead skin cells on the surface of your skin need to be removed to reveal the radiant new skin cells,” she adds. Aim to do this two to three times a week.
3 Double cleanse
The first step is to help remove makeup, and the second to cleanse your skin of impurities. “Your skin needs that extra step, especially if you wear makeup or live in a polluted city, to make extra sure there are no impurities left,” Lindsay adds. TRY Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Replenishing Cleansing Oil (R525).
4 Always take off your makeup!
“Makeup attracts free radicals during the day, which can speed up ageing. If you sleep with makeup on, your skin isn’t able to repair itself,” says Lindsay.
5 Consider the weather
“When the temperatures drop, your skin gets stripped of its moisture, making it drier than usual. When that happens, amp up your moisture levels and make sure to still protect yourself from the sun with a daily SPF. Start your routine with a multitasker like Elizabeth Arden Superstart Skin Renewal Booster (R745 for 30ml) which helps protect your skin from moisture loss and improves the effectiveness of your other products too,” she adds.
6 Add a serum
“A serum has active ingredients which penetrates to the deeper layers of the skin,” says Lindsay. “You’ll need this because, as you get older your skin slows the production of collagen and elastin (which are both found in the deeper layers of your skin.) The serum is the product that penetrates deeper and treats that area.”
7 Apply an eye cream
“Ageing starts in your teens and your eye area is one of the first areas to show the signs. I would recommend using an eye cream as early as your late teens to help slow the process of premature ageing,” says Lindsay.
8 Use just the right amount of moisturiser
“Too much moisturiser can end up clogging your pores. You only use a pea-sized amount for your face, neck and décolletage and make sure to avoid the eye area. Tap your moisturiser gently onto your skin and allow it to be absorbed before applying sunscreen or makeup,” she adds. “You’ll notice these signs if the moisturiser you’re using is not right for you: if it’s greasy and shiny or still leaves you feeling tight and dry. If so, you need to change it.”
9 Give it time
Starting a new routine? “Give six weeks to see the true results – all skin types are different and react in their own ways,” Lindsay adds.
