Ready to fall in love with autumn’s hottest nails? Sorbet gives us the lowdown on the four must-try trends of the season.
1 Coffin nails
In terms of the shape of things to come, Kylie Jenner is to thank for a nail trend that’s set to be the biggest – or at least the longest – for 2016. Super-lengthy, sharp and – dare we say it – morbidly beautiful, coffin nails are squarer than the stiletto shape and (yay) easier to maintain. Yet given the deadly length, the most practical way to wear them is ideally overlaid with a hard gel or acrylic.
2 Negative space
We can’t find anything negative about the fact that the negative space manicure is showing no signs of fading away. Incorporating the naked nail as part of the overall composition, the trend made its marked debut at NYFW ’15 – featuring striking minimalist designs such as black and white geometric shapes, simple stripes and reverse moons.
3 Half moons
Speaking of reverse, the classic French – considered the epitome of the perfect nail – has literally made a switch. Whether you call it the ‘reverse French’, ‘half-moon’ or ‘upside down’ mani, it’s having a moment. As the name suggests, the quintessentially white part of the mani is placed at the bottom of the nail, and not at the tip. Oui oui! Or should we say “ iuo iuo”?!
4 Coloured French
But that’s not where new twists on the classic Frenchie stops. Another bold stroke is causing a ruckus as French 2.0: coloured French manicures that see brightly-coloured tips boasting a spectrum of colour, or a single, striking hue. Colours dominating this trend on the catwalks include green, royal blues, red and, for something extremely chic, matte black. Wear your coloured French tips with a naked nail (negative space) and – voila! Two super-hot trends, nailed!
