Runway trends can sometimes look a little overwhelming and completely unwearable in real life. We took these tricks from the pros at the latest MAC trends presentation. Here’s how to apply them for everyday.
Amp up your lashes
“This season the motto for lashes is: more is more,” says MAC Senior Artist, Michelle-Lee Collins. “False lashes and tons of mascara are the best way to amp them up.” Her newest false lash trick? “Apply the lashes on the waterline of your eye. Put the smallest amount of glue on the falsies, wait for it to be almost and 100% dry, then press into the waterline – on the bottom lashes and then the top. It’s easiest to do when the lid is closed and you lift the lid to put it in place.” Sound too technical? “It can be daunting,” says Michelle-Lee, “but practice, practice, practice! The effect is incredible and, once the glue is dry, you won’t feel it at all! Then, add mascara and your lashes are volumised.”
Reinvent your liner
“Designers were loving futuristic liner to manipulate features,” says Michelle-Lee. “A lot of inspiration was taken from the 1960s and 1970s. A bold graphic liner looks great on everyone and immediately lifts the eye.” The easiest way to shake it up is to try different textures and finishes of liner. “One way to modernise it,” says MAC makeup pro, Keagan Cafun, “is to apply your liner close to your lash line, then blend it immediately with your fingertips to create a smidgen. It needs to look casual – almost as if you slept in it.”
Dab on your lip colour
The no-makeup makeup look is still big news. “But this doesn’t mean you’ve made no effort,” explains Michelle-Lee. “It’s all about boosting your skin’s natural luminosity using lotions, oils and primers to give your skin a gorgeous glow.” Cheeks are rosy – as if you have a natural flush and lips are imperfect. “A hint of colour is pressed onto the lip with blurred edges on the outside.” Finally, add a dot of clear lip gloss on the cupids bow to make your lips seem plumper!
